M&M says to stop selling vehicles in Brazil

Mahindra is withdrawing from Brazil after a sluggish economy, changes in regulation and a depreciating currency hurt sales, Pravin Shah, chief executive of Mahindra's automotive division and international operations, said.

 
 
Mahindra & Mahindra had sold 51,636 units in the corresponding month last year, the company said in a statement.
The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire declined to 38,710 units in March this year as against 44,251 units last year.
Japan's Honda said its unit, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, would spend Rs 585 crore and Honda Cars India, would invest Rs 380 crore to raise capacity.
Tata Motors-owned JLR India President Rohit Suri said: "This will enable us to access a wider audience which consists of discerning and premium Indian customers".
 
 
The company sold 1.29 million passenger vehicles in FY15 - a 12 per cent rise from a year ago and higher than its previous peak of 1.27 mn in the year 2010/2011.
Some analysts, however, expect self-driving cars to not appear on global markets until the early- or mid-2020s, partly due to regulatory hurdles.
