The report mentions that the number of institutions of national importance increased to 135 in 2020 from 75 in 2015.
The number of students pursuing PhD in 2019-20 stood at 2.03 lakh as against 1.17 lakh in 2014-15.
The total enrolment in higher education stood at 3.85 crore in 2019-20 as compared with 3.74 crore in 2018-19, registering a growth of 11.36 lakh (3.04 per cent). Total enrolment stood at 3.42 crore in 2014-15.
The number of universities increased by 30.5 per cent during 2015-16 to 2019-20, while the number of colleges also increased by about 8.4 per cent in the same period.
Enrolment in arts/ humanities/ social science registered 0.4 per cent growth in the last five years, while enrolment in science grew 13.5 per cent. Commerce enrolment rose by 8.5 per cent during the period.
