Energy Expert Narendra Taneja described the current global turmoil as the “biggest energy shock ever in the history of humankind,” warning that even advanced economies are struggling to cope with rising uncertainty. He said India has managed the crisis relatively well so far, but stressed that the country remains heavily dependent on imported crude oil despite rapid growth in renewables. According to Taneja, oil will continue to remain the backbone of India’s economy for at least the next 10–15 years, with nearly 90% of the country’s crude requirements imported. India currently consumes around 5.2 million barrels of oil daily, making it the world’s third-largest oil consumer and second-largest oil importer.
