The Quad nations have unveiled a major strategic push in the Pacific region with the launch of the “Ports of the Future” partnership in Fiji. Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong called it the strongest-ever Quad commitment to the Pacific, aimed at building high-quality and resilient infrastructure. The pilot project in Fiji is being seen as a significant geopolitical move as the Quad - comprising India, the US, Japan and Australia - steps up engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. The initiative focuses on strengthening critical port infrastructure and enhancing regional connectivity. Analysts believe the move also signals the Quad’s intent to counter growing strategic competition in the Pacific while deepening partnerships with island nations through infrastructure, investment and long-term regional cooperation.
