UPI payments could soon work even without an internet connection. According to reports, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), is developing an NFC (Near Field Communication)-based tap-to-pay feature that would enable offline UPI transactions. The proposed system is expected to allow users to make small-value digital payments even in areas with poor or no network connectivity, potentially expanding UPI's use across flights, underground metro networks and other offline environments. NPCI is yet to make an official announcement on the reported development.
