Just days after Elon Musk met with Prime Minister Modi in Washington D.C., Musk's U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cancelled $21 million in funding earmarked for voter turnout initiatives in India. This cancellation, part of a larger $486 million cut from the Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening (CEPPS), has ignited a major political controversy in India. The BJP is raising concerns about foreign interference, questioning who stood to benefit from this ₹180 crore funding. They are linking CEPPS to the Soros Foundation, alleging an attempt to influence, disrupt, or damage India's electoral process. The Consortium for Elections and Political Process Strengthening, founded in 1995 and funded by USAID, allegedly aims to support elections and political transitions globally. DOGE has also cancelled funds for similar initiatives in Bangladesh, Nepal, Moldova, and Liberia.
