After a scathing attack from the former Finance Minister P Chidambaram over demonetisation, Arun Jaitley defended the move and said that the government is ready to debate on the issue in the Parliament.
"I would urge the Congress party and the entire opposition that we are ready to debate this issue in Parliament. Rise above slogans and join us in this campaign than oppose it and create obstructions," he said.
Jaitley said," In 2004-14, high denomination currency increased to 80 per cent from 36 per cent of total currency. The government is now rapidly completing the demonetisation scheme and the significant amounts of currency will be injected in next three weeks."
In a counter attack on the Congress, he said, "Corruption was at its peak under the UPA government. We are not surprised to see the Congress party getting uncomfortable with demonetisation."
"Congress didn't react against corruption or black money in 10 years of its rule", he added.
