Railways earnings up 7.83 per cent

The total passenger revenue earnings during April-September 2010 were Rs 12,689.36 crores, up 9.64 per cent from the same period last year.

Railways have earned nearly 7.83 per cent more revenue during April-September this year, compared to the same period last year.

The total earnings of Indian Railways during the period were Rs 44,323.70 crores, compared to Rs 41,104.78 crores last year.

The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 27,629.01 crores during April-September 2009 to Rs 29,443.32 crores in the same period this year, an increase of 6.57 per cent.

The total passenger revenue earnings during first six months of the financial year 2010-11 were Rs 12,689.36 crores, compared to Rs 11,573.60 crores during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.64 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1,234.89 crores during the reviewed period, compared to Rs 1,121.64 crores during the same period last year, an increase of 10.10 per cent.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during April-September 2010 was 3.9 billion, compared to 3.6 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 6 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April-September 2010 was 1.98 billion and 1.91 billion, compared to 1.88 billion and 1.79 billion during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.39 per cent and 6.64 per cent respectively.
