Rupee gains 6 paise in early trade

The rupee had lost 7 paise to close at Rs 45.29/30 against the US currency in the previous session on strong dollar demand from importers amid sharp fall in stock markets.

The Indian rupee regained strength to trade 6 paise higher at Rs 45.23 against the US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market in the morning trade on Monday, tracking gains in other Asian currencies.

Dealers said firm opening of the stock exchanges and dollar's losses against other Asian currencies kept the rupee sentiment firm.

The rupee had lost 7 paise to close at Rs 45.29/30 against the US currency in the previous session on strong dollar demand from importers amid sharp fall in stock markets.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange index Sensex recovered by 170.53 points, or 0.87 per cent, to 19,755.97 level in the opening trade.
