The Indian rupee declined 4 paise to Rs 45.74 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Thursday, tracking losses in other Asian currencies.

Forex dealers said besides dollar's gains against other Asian currencies, continued demand for the American currency from importers kept pressure on the Indian currency.

However, the surge in stock markets during opening trade capped the losses. The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex rose 122.10 points to 19,581.95 points in the opening trade on Thursday.
