Over the years, the prestigious Cannes Film Festival has established itself as not just the Mecca of movies but one of the most carefully scrutinized red carpets as well. And ever since Aishwarya Rai first arrived at the festival way back in 2002 after having been signed as the brand ambassador by cosmetic giant L'Oreal Paris, India too has keenly watched this fashion and film extravaganza. Over the years, L'Oreal has signed on Freida Pinto and Sonam Kapoor as the other two Indian names and Katrina Kaif, the latest one to hop on the brand, will make her debut appearance probably next year. All these names are clearly enough reasons for the fashion police to analyse who wore what and how!
Cannes 2014 is still underway but our ladies are done walking the red carpet for their respective two dates. And as expected, each outfit was carefully scrutinized and everyone took their favorites. Overall though, it's been a good year for our girls there with all three of them garnering brownie points for their looks. If you've missed out on who wore what, here's a quick recap for your benefit.
India's export to Hollywood, Freida made an appearance at Cannes this year on May 17 and May 18. While the first day saw her in a feathered Micheal Kors gown, her second outing was in a strapless Oscar de la Renta. Both the looks were clean and good and Freida wore both the outfits rather well. Between the two, the Oscar de la Renta one however was the better option. Everything from its colour to the gold detailing was bang on trendy. The Micheal Kors gown, though extremely feminine, was a little too predictable and had an already-seen vibe to it. We somehow expected Freida, the fashionista that she is, to come up with a more bold choice. All in all, well done Freida!
India's leading fashion icon, Sonam has religiously balanced Western and Indian designers in her wardrobe for the film festival every year and this edition too was no different. For her first appearance on the red carpet on May 18, she chose a vintage black Elie Saab creation. True to form, she worked the voluminous gown perfectly well and what added to her look was the hairdo that was kept ultra chic. Sonam has always loved vintage looks and she clearly knows how to rock them. Her second appearance on May 19 saw her go Indo-chic in her most preferred designer Anamika Khanna. She accessorized her pale pink net sari dress with a Ferragamo clutch, Jimmy Choo heels and a stunning choker designed by her mother Sunita Kapoor. Have no doubts for Sonam proved why she's India's best fashionista!
