On the Cards: How to Shuffle a Deck

     Print Edition: July 21, 2013

1. Riffle them halfway into two stacks. Hold one stack in each hand. Pull back the top of the stacks with your thumbs, creating a small bend in the middle of the stack

2. The next step is to move the thumbs slowly up to the top of the cards' edge, while releasing them one by one. The cards are now well shuffled for fair-play.

3. Exert the pressure with your thumbs, and wrap your thumbs index and middle fingers around the bottom edge. Now, slowly, bend the cards in an arch.

4. Uncurl your fingers and allow the cards to gradually cascade down. This technique will come in handy for testing any card-trick expert.
