So you want to take the long route to the best year-end parties in the world. Here’s what you should choose from.

Ibiza, Spain
The hedonistic heritage of Ibiza goes back more than 30 years and makes it the best places to party in the world. Top clubs, on-form DJs, hot bands, a cosmopolitan mix of clubbers, local residents, a wide range of sexualities, and the full alphabet soup of celebrities—it’s all on offer on this island. Head to clubs Amnesia and Privilege, where the full heat of the partying is sure to hit you.

Koh Pha-Ngan, Thailand
Koh Tao provides activities from yoga to kickboxing, mountain biking and so on. But what is peculiar about this island is how quiet it gets around the full moon. Every islander heads off to the world famous FullMoon Party in Koh Pha-Ngan, the island right next to Koh Tao. A popular option to avoid being room-less in Koh Pha-Ngan is to actually stay on Koh Tao and take the FullMoon “party boat” which leaves at 6 p.m. and gets you right to the party beach by 7.30 p.m. and stays there to ferry you back at 6 a.m. Enjoy the parties at Koh Pha-Ngan on Christmas day and New Year’s eve.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Rio, South America’s hottest, most-flocked party destination is known for its fine restaurants on Rua Dias Ferreira, its cable car ride on Sugarloaf (also known as Pão de Açúcar) and its beaches. But Rio comes alive after dark. Bars and clubs open only after 11p.m. and stay open till dawn. Check out Lapa, Leblon, and Copacabana for the best scenes. But the stuff of legends: The Copacabana and Ipanema Beaches—they are party places of dreams.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Whether you’re there for the weed or the mushrooms or the women—there’s no doubt that Amsterdam is every man’s fantasy come true. The city’s free-thinking mantra is its biggest draw. This Dutch city has a stellar nightlife and all its watering holes, cafes and clubs highlight top international DJs. Either you could stay at one or more of the city’s party “hostels” or you could simply join one of the most popular bar crawls in the city. The crawls take place six nights a week and there’s a variety to choose from—one even to the red light area.

Sydney, Australia
“Unusual and spunky” is the theme for this party season. And that’s what they’re doing in Sydney. The clubs and nightlife are unbeatable; the fireworks above the Sydney Harbour is what most people go to Sydney for. The Sydney Party Bus is known for their bar crawls and party-hopping but what makes them exceptional is their services in customising year-end parties.

Miami, USA
Miami Beach and specifically the image-conscious South Miami Beach has a sizzling dining and club scene. For the past decade, it has reigned as one of America’s party capitals. There’s much to see and do in Miami, but it’s really all about the party—by day, sun and sand amid scantily-clad, hard-bodied people; by night, dining and partying amid a mix of the rich, famous, and fabulous. This sprawling, sun-splashed playground is the quintessential party capital.
