Riding high on the success of the Optimus 2x, LG has added a new product to the Optimus lineup. With nothing revolutionary new about this device, the Optimus Sol can only give some competition to Rs 15,000 Android smartphones from Samsung and Sony Ericsson.

Made from black plastic, the Optimus Sol looks like any regular smartphone. It boasts a 3.8-inch capacitive touch display and sports three touch keys-menu, home and back. Volume controls have been placed on the left edge, while the power key, charging jack and 3.5mm jack are on the top. But what's striking about the Sol is its super rich, bright display. The Sol features an 'Ultra AMOLED' screen with deep black that makes watching multimedia content over the display a treat. Even the onscreen QWERTY keypad is well spaced and easy to use. Belonging to the league of Android smartphones still running on 1GHz processor, the Sol has the Android v2.3 on board with 512 MB memory. So, from launching the applications to multitasking, everything performed in a smooth manner.

Along with regular connectivity options like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G, the phone also had Wi-Fi Direct that can be used for quickly transferring media files between two Wi-Fi Direct enabled devices. What disappointed us about this device was camera operations-the camera slowed down while switching to the camcorder or trying to capture the image. The results obtained from the 5MP camera during the daylight were about average, and the ones captured during the night were plain disappointing.

Also, the battery backup was about average as even after a complete charge, the phone started dying on us after 6-7 hours of average use.

BAG IT OR JUNK IT? Scores over others due to the bigger and better display, but the camera and the battery are a bit of a concern.
