Q. I fancy a Samsung Series 7 NP700G7C. Is it the best for its price or is there better? I want a fast high-end laptop with lots of memory and good gaming. - Andy Savage, on email

A. The Series 7 is good, but look out for the new Samsung Series 7 Chronos devices if you have made up your mind. If you are okay with an Ultrabook, the Series 9 is sleek and very powerful. But it does not come with an optical drive. If you want a regular laptop that can handle gaming, I suggest the Lenovo Ideapad Z580. Not very expensive, but then very powerful and lots of memory. If you want a proper gaming laptop, then consider the Asus G75VW which can give even the Alienware a run for its money.

Q. I want to buy a new phone and my budget is up to Rs 21,000. I have decided upon a refurbished Samsung Galaxy SII which is available online for Rs 20,999. It comes with a six months warranty from Samsung. While this looks like a good deal, do you recommend any other phone. The HTC 8S looks great, but do you see the Windows Marketplace growing and will the OS remain relevant as I will keep the phone for two years. Also there are reports of the SII Plus being launched shortly and that it might be priced at Rs 20,000 in India so should I wait ? - Prashant, on email

A. Instead of spending your money on a refurbished Samsung Galaxy SII, the new Samsung Galaxy Grand is a better option. It has a 5-inch capacitive touch display with a dual-core processor onboard. The performance of the Grand is impressive and you get access to all the apps listed on the Google Play store.
