INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US Rs 2,499 (PS3)

As all hardcore comic fans know, Injustice: Gods Among Us is a story taken from the Elseworld comics series. The all-powerful Superman accidentally activates a nuclear attack on Metropolis, wiping out everyone he loves, including pregnant wife Lois Lane and their unborn child. Though the mastermind behind this evil plan is the Joker, this tragedy triggers the man of steel to lose faith in everything and everyone he knows. He decides to be dictator of Earth instead of the protector of mankind. So it is up to the Justice League of America to stop him. The great thing about this game is that there are 24 DC characters to choose from.

GAMEPLAY: If you are looking for a ground breaking fighting game then you might as well start a couple of notches low so that you can enjoy and get into the groove of bashing some super heroes and villains. The makers of Injustice are the same people who introduced us to the Mortal Kombat franchise. But this is not just another MK title with DC characters. The interactive surroundings, for one, makes the game stand out from other fighting titles. For instance, if you feel a boulder is going to slow down your pounding style then you can simply smash them to bits so that your opponent can't use it. There are no fatalities, obviously, but to keep thing interesting and visually satisfying the game makers have introduced 'super moves'.

ADDITIONAL FIGHT MODES: More than the mind numbing action with awesome moves, what stands out is the Story Mode which gives you insights into the game and conversations between characters. We loved the arcade style Battles which lets you add a host of tweaks and modifications. Once you get past the game's long Story Mode, there's still plenty to keep Injustice in your console's disc tray. There's the obligatory arcade-style ladder match to which you can apply a host of tweaks. Each player has a ten mission storyline. Online, Injustice lets you fight against others in ranked matches.

VERDICT: This street fight version of DC characters is a vast improvement from its previous installment. But, honestly, it doesn't really provide anything new. A must-buy for Mortal Kombat fans, this might not captivate first-timers.

BAG IT OR JUNK IT? Brilliant fight moves, interactive surroundings, but nothing new.
