DESIGN

Samsung Galaxy S4 (Rs 41,490 for 16 GB variant)
The SG4 is not unique in any way and looks very much like its predecessor. It has got a polycarbonate back that is like a flimsy piece of plastic. Though sleek and weightless, it lacks a premium feel. It is 7.9mm thick and weighs 130 grams.

HTC One (Rs 42,900 for 32 GB variant)
The HTC One is a gorgeous piece of hardware with a full metal unibody with zero gap construction. The curved back gives a comfortable grip. It weighs 143 grams and is 9.3mm thick, but is still comfortable to hold.

DISPLAY

Samsung Galaxy S4
The 5-inch Full HD display offers sharp images and text. But AMOLED screens often show oversaturated colours.

HTC One
HTC One's 4.7-inch Full HD screen isn't by any means small. Everything looks sharp and natural.

USER INTERFACE

Samsung Galaxy S4
The latest version of the TouchWiz doesn't change things much. But this user interface is simple and neat.

HTC One
HTC Sense now has Blink Feed, a magazine-like interface showing news, Facebook and Twitter updates.

PROCESSING POWER

Samsung Galaxy S4
1.6GHz + 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Android v4.2.2. The Samsung Galaxy S4 scores marginally well in almost all the benchmark tests we ran. Quadrant 12275; Antutu 27850, 3D Mark 10608; SmartBench 2012 6982.

HTC One
1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, Android v4.1.2. HTC One scored a little less but you wouldn't feel any difference in performance. Quadrant 12105, Antutu 21738, 3D Mark 10469, Smart Bench 2012 6670

SOFTWARE

Samsung Galaxy S4
Smart Scroll for scrolling the page up and down by tilting, Air Gesture to change gallery images without touching and Air View to show a preview by hovering the finger over the gallery or email give it an edge.

HTC One
The HTC One has an integrated TV guide that lets you to select TV channels, access program guides, adjust audio. But it didn't work with our Tata Sky set-top box. There is the HTC Sense too.

CAMERA

Samsung Galaxy S4
The SG4 has got 13MP BSI sensor camera with LED flash that produces good images in perfect lighting. But its performance is a spoiler in lowlight environments with images lacking sharpness.

HTC One
HTC has added a unique 4MP sensor to the One. While it produces good images in daylight, it wasn't as impressive as the SG4 results. But talk about low-light and night photography and the HTC One does a good job.

BATTERY

Samsung Galaxy S4
2600 mAh battery lasts a day with ease when all the fancy features are turned off.

HTC One
2300 mAh battery lasts a day with average use, but with heavy use it dies faster.
