Price: Rs 6,499
Specs: Android 4.0; 7-inch tablet; Front VGA camera; 4GB memory, expandable up to 32GB; Wi-Fi, HDMI port, miniUSB port; 350 gm; 2800mAh battery.
The 350-gm tablet is powered by ARM Cortex A8 1.2GHz processor with a Mali 400 GPU and comes with 512MB RAM. The specs are enough to let the Funbook perform routine tasks. However, the display isn't all that bright and illegible in sunlight.
PORTRAIT OR LANDSCAPE?
The physical keys on the Funbook are easy to use in Landscape mode, but the same become a pain when used in the portrait mode. You have no option but to stick to the onscreen key in the latter.
While it does everything smoothly, web browsing isn't one of the Funbook's strong points. It managed to play videos and games, but slows down as the graphics get heavier.
MADE FOR INDIA
For a change this is a tablet designed and manufactured in India, and does not sport a Made in China logo at the rear. Micromax has tied up with some leading names in the education sector to provide educational content on the Funbook.
Despite being a low-end tablet, the Funbook features Android v4.0 Ice-Cream Sandwich. The user interface hasn't been changed and you can close running apps with a single swipe like in other tablets running this Android version.
BAG IT OR JUNK IT? Impressive. Good value for money at the price point.
