Smart third quarter earnings lift Tata Power scrip by 3% on BSE

The country's largest private power producer rose 2.99 per cent to an early high of Rs 1,278.50 on BSE. The stock was also the top performer among the 30-Sensex scrips.

Shares of Tata Power went up nearly 3 per cent in early trade on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday, boosted by a three-fold increase in net profit for the third quarter ended December 31, 2010.

The country's largest private power producer rose 2.99 per cent to an early high of Rs 1,278.50 on BSE. The stock was also the top performer among the 30-Sensex scrips in early trade.

In a similar fashion, the stock surged 3.03 per cent to Rs 1,279 on the National Stock Exchange.

The company, had on Monday, posted a three-fold jump in net profit to Rs 464.11 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2010.

Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex was trading 68 points lower, at 18,133.96, at 10.25 am.
