Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) turned net sellers in November after withdrawing funds amounting to Rs 11,268.1 crore. FPIs had invested Rs 20,691.5 crore in the capital markets in October 2015. On a cumulative basis, during the period between April- November, there were net outflows of Rs 9,096 crore. In the previous fiscal, FPIs invested around Rs 2,77,515.5 crore in the secondary markets. These net investments includes both equity and debt.
FPIs withdrew funds from both the equity and debt markets in November 2015. Net outflows from equity markets amounted to Rs 7,628.8 crore. Out of the 18 trading days during the month, FPIs were net sellers of equity for 16 days. Debt markets witnessed net FPI outflows amounting to Rs 3,639.3 crore in November 2015. FPIs purchased debt instruments worth Rs 14,338 crore and sold debt amounting to Rs 17,977 crore during the month.
With FPIs pulling out around Rs 7,629 crore from the equity markets, the Sensex declined around 2 per cent in November. The benchmark index has declined almost 8 per cent over the past eight months.
