WHO SHOULD INVEST IN IT?
The fund targets the same sectoral weights as the BSE 200, subject to flexibility of selecting stocks within a particular sector to generate long-term capital growth, income generation and distribution of dividend. It's a fund to be fit into the core of a portfolio. The large-cap focus has limited its ability to benefit from rallies led by mid-cap stocks but has the ability to change track in sync with market trends. For instance, while most equity funds struggled to mirror market returns in 2009, BSL Frontline-despite sporting high cash exposure in the first few months-was quick enough to up its equity ante.

MEET THE FUND MANAGER
The fund's outperformance of its category since 2006 has been attributed to fund manager Mahesh Patil, who took over in 2005. "We get into quality stocks at distressed valuations," he says.
