Aviation ministry asks operators to register drones by Jan 31 or face action
The Aviation Ministry announced a scheme on Monday asking operators to voluntarily register their drones by January 31. The ministry said that those who fail to register will face action under the Indian Penal Code and Aircraft Act. The number of illegal drones in India is likely to be between 50,000 and 60,000, co-chair of a FICCI committee on drones, Ankit Mehta, had said on October 22 last year.

Siemens to support Adani coal project in Australia despite protests
German engineering group Siemens said it would fulfil its contractual obligations to a controversial coal mining project in Australia's outback, attracting criticism from environmental groups on Monday. Siemens was awarded a contract last year to provide signaling technology for a railway line to transport coal from a remote coal mine run by India's Adani Group in northern Queensland state. The German company had said it would decide by Monday on its involvement in the project. On Saturday, teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg called for Siemens to review its role in the project.

CCI orders antitrust probe against Amazon, Flipkart
India's antitrust body has ordered an investigation into alleged competition law violations by Amazon.com Inc and Walmart's Flipkart, it said in an order on Monday. The Competition Commission of India said that exclusive arrangements between mobile phone brands and e-commerce platforms, as well as allegations of e-commerce companies giving preferential treatment to certain sellers "merits an investigation".

Sebi extends deadline to separate roles of chairman, MDs to April 2022
In a huge relief for corporates, market regulator SEBI has extended the deadline given to companies to separate the roles of chairman and managing director by two years till April 2022. The Sebi board in March 2018 had accepted the Uday Kotak-led panel's recommendations to split CMD and chairman's posts in listed companies.

Hyundai Creta beats Kia Seltos in December, sells 6,719 units
Kia Seltos managed to sell only 4,645 units in the month of December. The Seltos was beaten by Hyundai Creta that sold 6,719 units in December. In a month-on-month comparison with its November figures, the sales of the Seltos have dropped down by 67% as the SUV sold 14,005 units in November.

Retail inflation touches 7.35% in December, highest since July 2014
The consumer price index (CPI) continued to breach the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) medium-term target of 4 per cent for third consecutive month in December 2019 at 7.35 per cent, which is highest since July 2014. The spike in retail inflation is attributed to high food prices. This also marks a spike in inflation from November when the retail inflation was 5.54 per cent.
