Coronavirus: China reports drop in new cases, zero in Hubei for sixth day

Mainland China reported 31 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, including one locally transmitted infection, the country's National Health Commission said, dropping from 45 cases a day earlier. Hubei province, where the coronavirus outbreak first emerged in late 2019, reported no new cases for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday after the province of 60 million people lifted its traffic restrictions and resumed some domestic flights to other parts of China.

Now all goods - essential and non-essential - can move in coronavirus lockdown

Central government has allowed transportation of all goods, without distinction of essential and non-essential during the lockdown period. The decision will help movement of existing stocks, and if followed by an approval to permit at least partial operations of manufacturing, will help the movement of goods within the country, as well as export and import of goods that are not in the banned or restricted category. The entire food processing industry may benefit from the relaxation soon.

An increase of 87% in social media usage amid lockdown

Amid the lockdown, Indians have turned to social media to pass their time. In the first week of lockdown, Indians spent more than four hours every day on social media. This is a 87 per cent increase from a week before lockdown. On social media, people were largely consuming news and communicating with their friends and families as coronavirus gripped the country.

Over 40 diesel-run cars and SUVs will be phased out of the market in April as companies focus more on petrol models, cleaner CNG models, and electric versions. This shift in focus has been caused by the onset of the new BS6 emission norms. This shift in focus comes at the time when the nation is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump extends social distancing guidelines amid fears of high death rate

President Donald Trump said on Sunday the peak death rate in the US from the novel coronavirus is likely to hit in two weeks as he extended the coronavirus guidelines, including social distancing, until April 30.
