Delhi air pollution: AQI worsens to 'very poor' again; Chandni Chowk, Noida in 'severe' category

The air quality in Delhi worsened on Wednesday and dipped further on Thursday morning. At 9:30 am on Thursday, Delhi's AQI was recorded in the 'very poor' category, while some parts of the Delhi-NCR region witnessed thick smog worsening the air quality to 'severe' category. The overall AQI in Delhi was recorded at 340, which falls in the 'very poor' category.

10% rise in female commuters in Delhi's public buses since free-ride scheme launch

The number of female commuters in public buses in the national capital has jumped by nearly 10 per cent since the implementation of the Delhi government's free-ride scheme for women, official data released on Wednesday showed. Female commuters earlier used to form 33 per cent of the daily ridership in public buses, it said, adding that in 22 days since the implementation of the scheme, the ridership of women passengers has jumped to around 44 per cent.

Cabinet approves import of 1.2 lakh tonnes onion: FM Sitharaman

The Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval to the Food Ministry's recent decision to import 1.2 lakh tonnes of onions in a bid to improve the domestic availability of the key kitchen staple and check prices. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed about the decision at a media briefing after the Cabinet meeting. The move comes after the government's various efforts to boost the domestic availability failed to cool down the retail prices significantly

A parliamentary standing committee, headed by Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, met here on Wednesday to examine the WhatsApp snooping issue. Tharoor, who heads the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, had written a letter to the other panel members, saying the alleged use of technology for snooping on Indian citizens was a matter of "grave concern"

In a much needed respite to stressed telecom companies, the Union Cabinet on Wed
Wednesday approved a two-year moratorium on payment of pending spectrum auction instalments for the years 2020-21 and 2021-22, sources told news agency PTI. The move to defer payments for 2020-21 and 2021-22 will give Rs 42,000 crore relief to Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, they said.
