The United States reported more than 60,000 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the biggest increase ever reported by a country in a single day, according to a Reuters tally. The United States faces a bleak summer with record-breaking infections and many states forced to close parts of the economy again, leaving some workers without a paycheck.

Coronavirus: Cipla prices generic remdesivir, Cipremi, at Rs 4,000

Cipla Ltd has priced its generic version of remdesivir, Cipremi, at 4,000 rupees ($53.34) per 100 mg vial, the Indian drugmaker said on Wednesday, making it among the lowest priced versions of the COVID-19 treatment available so far globally. Cipla had earlier said pricing would not exceed 5,000 rupees. On Tuesday, Sovereign Pharma, which is manufacturing and packaging the drug for Cipla, said it had dispatched the first batch.

Harvard, MIT sue Trump administration over foreign student visa row

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have sued the Trump administration over its decision to revoke visas of foreign students taking online-only courses in the US this fall semester. According to the controversial order, the foreign students pursuing degrees in the US would be stripped of their US visas or risk deportation if their courses go entirely online because of the coronavirus pandemic.

State Bank of India (SBI) on Wednesday said that it may invest in the follow-on public offer (FPO) by YES Bank. The executive committee of the central board (ECCB) of the state-run lender has approved a maximum investment of up to Rs 1,760 crore in the YES Bank FPO, SBI said in an exchange filing.

Tata Consumer embraces digital distribution, cuts ties with dealers, distributors

Tata Consumer Products (TCPL), the new entity formed by the merger of Tata Global Beverages and the consumer products division of Tata Chemicals, has terminated contracts with most of its distributors and dealers to make way for digital distribution of its products including Tata Salt, Tata Sampann, Tata Tea, Tetley, Eight O'clock Coffee and Himalayan water. According to sources, TCPL severed its long standing contract with 40 nationwide distributors and 5,000 dealers to try the direct dealership strategy, at which the FMCG giant Hindustan Unilever (HUL) excels.
