Joe Biden admin to send 6 mn COVID-19 vaccine doses to India, other US allies

The U.S. will donate 75% of its unused COVID-19 vaccines to the U.N.-backed COVAX global vaccine sharing program, President Joe Biden announced Thursday. The White House unveiled the allocation for sharing the first 25 million doses with the world. The U.S. has said it plans to share 80 million vaccine doses globally by the end of June.

By 2025, there'll be more internet users in rural India than urban areas: report

India is likely to see a 45 per cent increase in its active internet users (AIU) by 2025 as against 2020, according to a report by IAMAI Kantar ICUBE 2020. The number of AIU in the country is expected to increase to 900 million by 2025 from around 622 million in 2020. The report also revealed that by 2025, there will be more internet users in rural India than in urban India.

Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries working on cheaper COVID-19 drug, affordable test kits

In an attempt to help India tide over its COVID-19 crisis, Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries is working on a new COVID-19 drug and cheaper testing kits. The conglomerate, backed by Asia's richest man, is mulling usage of Niclosamide- a tapeworm drug as a cure for COVID-19 infection. Diagnostic kits made by the company-- R-Green and R-Green Pro-- have received approval from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

'User privacy remains highest priority': WhatsApp responds to Centre's 'trick consent' remark

Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp on Thursday responded to the Centre's charge that the messaging app was hoodwinking its users to agree to its updated privacy policy. The Facebook-owned messaging platform, in its defence, clarified that it accords highest priority to the privacy of its users. WhatsApp added that it will not confine its functionality for users not consenting to its new privacy policy, but will continue to send reminders about the update.

COVID 2nd wave: Domestic air traffic down 67% in May, reaches June-July 2020 levels

Domestic passenger traffic stood at 19-20 lakh in May compared to 57.3 lakh in April 2021, recording a sequential decline of 65-67 per cent, ratings agency ICRA said in a report. The air traffic plunge in May was lower than the June-July 2020 levels when India was under the strictest lockdown.

Apple to shift to 3-day work weeks from September

Apple Inc CEO Tim Cook wants some of the company's employees to resume office in September for at least three days a week. The iPhone maker's employees have been working remotely for the past year to check the spread of COVID-19. Apple has asked its staff to come to the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at a minimum.
