Scientists have predicted that coronavirus will become a seasonal virus in countries with temperate climates only when herd humanity is attained. Until then, public health measures must be followed to curb the spread of the virus, a review published in Frontiers highlighted. Dr Hassan Zaraket of the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, added, "COVID-19 is here to stay and it will continue to cause outbreaks year-round until herd immunity is achieved".

13 states raise Rs 14,000 crore in govt securities, development loan auction

A total of Rs 14,000 crore has been raised by 13 states at the auction of state government securities or state development loans (SDLs) held on Tuesday. This was Rs 1,500 crore more than the notified amount of the auction as two states - Maharashtra and Telangana accepted an additional amount of Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 500 crore, respectively.

Social media giant Facebook has announced $4.3 million (Rs 32 crore) grants to support small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) in India as they continue to face economic uncertainties in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund is a part of $100 million global grant for small businesses announced by Facebook in March this year.

Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute (SII) has alerted there won't be enough vaccines to combat the novel coronavirus for everyone in the world till 2024. "It is going to take four to five years until everyone gets the vaccine on this planet," Poonawalla told Financial Times in an interview. The head of the world's largest vaccine manufacturer said that the world will need 15 billion doses of the COVID-19 shot if it is a two-dose vaccine.

At least 17 Indian MPs infected with coronavirus as cases near 5 million

At least 17 members of the Indian parliament have tested positive for the coronavirus, government officials said on Tuesday, underlining the widening spread of infections set to cross five million cases soon. India, where cases have been rising faster than any other nation, lags only the United States in terms of its number of total infections.
