Coronavirus lockdown: 10 lakh jobs lost in Punjab; state to lose Rs 50,000 crore this year
Around 10 lakh jobs have been lost in Punjab and the state is set to lose a whopping Rs 50,000 crore this year due to the coronavirus lockdown, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said on Sunday while hinting at some "tough measures" for revenue generation. Noting that the financial situation is "extremely critical", Singh said he has already asked all the 'non-essential' departments to cut down on expenses and manage their costs judiciously.

In wake of the extended lockdown in India, all domestic and international flights have been suspended till May 31 midnight, according to a notice issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Sunday. However, restrictions will not apply to domestic and international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by the DGCA.

The very severe cyclonic storm 'Amphan' has intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had warned on Sunday that the cyclone would intensify by Monday. Cyclone Amphan is expected to impact central parts of the South Bay of Bengal, around 870 km south of Paradip in Odisha.

Relief for stranded migrants! Inter-state movement of buses finally allowed
In a major relief for stranded migrants, the government has finally allowed the inter-state movement of buses. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has permitted inter-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses, provided that consent is given by all states and UTs involved, the order stated. The central government has given the authority to states and UTs to decide on the intra-state movement of passenger vehicles and buses. This could come as big relief to thousands of migrants who have been travelling on foot in many parts of the country to return to their hometowns.
