Services sector FDI rises 37% to $9.15 billion in FY19

Foreign direct investment in services sector grew 36.5 per cent to USD 9.15 billion in 2018-19, according to the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). The sector attracted FDI worth USD 6.7 billion in 2017-18. Services sector includes finance, banking, insurance, outsourcing, R&D, courier, tech testing and analysis. The government has taken several measures like fixing timeliness for approvals and streamlining procedures to improve ease of doing business in the country and attract foreign investments.

Zomato introduces 26-week paid parental leave for both men and women

Zomato will offer 26 weeks of paid parental leave to all its employees, including new fathers. The new leave policy will also apply to surrogate or adoptive parents, as well as same-sex parents. The company will follow the government mandated policy in regions where it provides a longer period of leave than the company policy.

McDonald's to pay Rs 70,000 to man who found insect in burger five years ago

The Delhi consumer redressal commission has asked McDonald's to pay a Delhi resident Rs 70,000 for finding a an insect inside a burger he ate five years ago. The man ate the burger and fell sick, after which he slammed the company with a case. The Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission upheld the order of a district forum.

Smaller bonus slashes HUL chief Sanjiv Mehta's take-home by 2.52 per cent to Rs 18.88 crore

FMCG major Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) Chairman and Managing Director Sanjiv Mehta took a reduction of 2.52% in his salary in FY19. Mehta earned a gross salary (total remuneration) of Rs 18.88 crore in 2018-19 (FY19) as compared to Rs 19.37 crore a year earlier (FY18), HUL's FY19 annual report released on Monday showed. Meanwhile, there was an increase of 36.4% in the FY18 remuneration over FY17.
