Q2 GDP growth rate to be announced today; Modi govt's worst fear may come true
The GDP growth rate for Q2 FY20 will be announced today. After a downward slide in growth for six quarters straight, the Modi government that is on a damage control mode would want the GDP growth to stabilise for Q2 of FY20. However, as per analysts, the GDP growth is likely to hit yet another low. Rating agencies India Ratings and ICRA expect the growth numbers to be 4.7 per cent. Kotak Economic Research that estimated GDP growth to be at 5.2 per cent earlier has slashed it to 4.7 per cent.

Govt plans security audit of WhatsApp after hacking attempt: Ravi Shankar Prasad
India wants to conduct an audit of WhatsApp's security systems following revelations that spyware exploited vulnerabilities in the Facebook-owned messaging platform, the country's technology minister said on Thursday. The Indian Computer Emergency Team (CERT-In) "sought submission of information from WhatsApp on November 9, 2019, including a need to conduct an audit and inspection of WhatsApp's security systems and processes," Ravi Shankar Prasad told parliament in a statement.

Amazon gets CCI nod to acquire 49% stake in Future Coupons
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Thursday approved Amazon's proposed Rs 1,500 crore deal to acquire 49 per cent stake in Future Coupons Ltd (FCL), a Future Retail promoter group company. The deal is basically aimed at enhancing the payments portfolio of both the companies. The company has embarked on a Rs 1,000- crore investment plan for creating distribution centres for its food-on-demand venture.

Onion prices remain high across the major cities of the country as the average selling price ruled at Rs 70 per kg on Thursday while the maximum rate of Rs 110 per kg was recorded in Panaji, according to official data. The lowest price of Rs 38 per kg of the bulb was reported from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, the Consumer Affairs Ministry data showed.

FM Sitharaman seeks Parliament nod for additional spending of Rs 21,246 crore
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday sought Parliament approval to spend an additional Rs 21,246.16 crore, including over Rs 8,820 crore in the newly formed union territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, in the current fiscal ending March 2020. Sitharaman tabled the first batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants for the financial year 2019-20 in both the Houses of Parliament saying of the total spend, cash outgo will be about 19,000 crore.

Private lender HDFC Bank has constituted a six-member search committee to replace Aditya Puri as managing director and chief executive officer of the bank, whose tenure ends on October 26, 2020. Aditya Puri, who has been the managing director of the bank since September 1994, will act as an advisor to the search committee, the bank said in the exchange filing. Puri has been at the helm of HDFC Bank since its inception, making him the longest-serving chief executive of any private-sector bank in the country.
