Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries on Thursday reported a 30.97 per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 13,233 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2020, thanks to exceptional gain of Rs 4,966 crore from stake sale to BP in Reliance BP Mobility. The strong performance by telecom and retail arms helped the company to ride out a tough quarter disrupted by COVID-19 induced slowdown. However, the company's oil-to-chemicals (O2C) and oil and gas business were impacted by subdued demand amid global lockdowns.
FMCG industry to see a flat growth in 2020; June shows green shoots
The FMCG industry in India would witness a flat growth of around 1 per cent in 2020, according to Nielsen Global Connect. The agency, earlier this year, had projected a growth in the region of 6.3 per cent, which it has revised post the impact of COVID-19 during the months of April and May. The FMCG industry during the months of April-May-June degrew by close to 17.1 per cent.

Popular battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) PUBG Mobile has introduced a new change in the privacy policy for Indian users. This announcement comes soon after several reports indicated that the game is in the list of 275 apps rounded up for scrutiny. PUBG Mobile, in its new privacy policy, stated that Indian users' data will be stored on domestic servers.
China warns India against 'forced decoupling' of their economies
China warned on Thursday that a "forced decoupling" of its economy with India, following a Himalayan border clash last month that killed 20 Indian soldiers, would hurt both countries. The Chinese ambassador said China was not a strategic threat to India and that the "general structure that we can't live without each other remains unchanged".
Govt mulls gold amnesty scheme for unaccounted holders
Finance Ministry is reportedly working on a gold amnesty scheme for people with unaccounted holdings of the precious metal. The move is meant to cut down tax evasion and lower the dependence on imports, a media report said. A proposition has been sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi which calls for allowing people with illicit stash of gold to declare their holdings to tax authorities and pay levies and penalties
