Reliance may launch Jio GigaFiber on August 12 at company's AGM

Reliance Jio is likely to commercially launch its Jio GigaFiber on August 12 during Mukesh Ambani-helmed Reliance Industries' annual general meeting (AGM). The Jio GigaFiber that will aim to disrupt the Indian broadband market includes home broadband, entertainment and smart home Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.

Reliance Industries overtakes Indian Oil on Fortune Global 500 list

Reliance Industries (RIL) is now the highest-ranking Indian firm on the Fortune Global 500 list. The Mukesh Ambani led oil-to-telecom conglomerate jumped 42 places to rank 106 on this year's list, finally leaving Indian Oil Corp (IOC) in the dust. The country's largest state-owned refiner had hitherto been the top ranked desi entity on the list. In fact, it had steadfastly topped the Fortune India 500 list, too, since it was first compiled in 2010.

Recruitment outlook positive on hiring for July-December period this year: Report

Recruiters are bullish about adding staff to their payrolls in next six months of this year, and the maximum hiring is expected to be in the experience band of three-five years, a report said. According to leading job site Naukri.com's bi-annual survey titled Naukri Hiring Outlook JulyDecember 2019, 78 per cent recruiters surveyed are anticipating hiring activity in the next six months, as against 70 per cent in the corresponding period last year.

Maruti sales slowdown: Suzuki Motor drops plan to double manufacturing capacity

Suzuki Motor Corp, the parent of Maruti Suzuki India, has dropped its plans to double vehicle manufacturing capacity in Gujarat amid the slowdown in the domestic automobile industry. With passenger vehicle sales plummeting 17.54 per cent in June, for the eighth successive month, several auto companies, including Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, have previously announced production cuts.

Netflix launches Rs 199 mobile-only plan in India

Netflix has finally launched a mobile-only plan in India. Unlike rumours that placed the pricing for the new plan at Rs 250, Netflix has launched the mobile-only version for Rs 199. For now, the Rs 199 per month plan has been unveiled only in India. Netflix executives have confirmed that the company is, however, testing the plan in other parts of the world.

Home Minister Amit Shah to head panel on workplace sexual harassment

Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a panel of four cabinet ministers to examine ways to prevent workplace sexual harassment, a ministry spokesman said on Wednesday, as activists criticised the official response to the #MeToo movement. The new panel, which includes Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, was set up last week.

Death toll in Assam, Bihar floods reaches 197; around 1.24 crore people affected

The death toll in Bihar and Assam floods mounted to 197, with a total of 1.24 crore people being affected by the calamity in the two states, officials said. The toll in Bihar rose to 123 on Wednesday with the deaths of 17 people, while the deluge in Assam claimed six more lives taking the total figure to 74.
