Apple to bring back new chipsets, old magnetic charger to MacBook Pro
Apple is set to launch the new MacBook Pro models powered by its own line of chipsets. The tech giant will also bring back magnetic charging as well as updated displays on the new MacBooks. The new laptop models will be launched this year. The company is working towards making a move from its Intel chipset and powering its new laptops with an enhanced in-house chipset, both in terms of processing and graphics performance.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw selected as one of US-India Business Council's vice-chair
US-India Business Council (USIBC) has selected Biocon Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw as one of its vice-chairs effective immediately. US Chamber of Commerce's USIBC on January 14 announced three vice-chairs to its 2021 Global Board of Directors. The two other business executives joining Shaw as vice-chairs are Amway CEO Milind Pant and Edward Knight who is the vice-chair at Nasdaq.
British economy shrinks 2.6% in Nov 2020; 1st fall since initial lockdown
Britain's economy shrank by 2.6% in November, the first monthly fall in output since the depths of an initial COVID lockdown in April, as new restrictions were imposed on much of the country to slow the spread of the disease. The fall in gross domestic product reported by the Office for National Statistics was much lower than the average forecast for a 5.7% drop in a Reuters poll of economists. The Bank of England estimates Britain's economy shrank by just over 1% over the final three months of 2020, and with a new lockdown in place since January the country is likely to have fallen into a double-dip recession.
HCL Tech to hire 20,000 people in next 4-6 months: CEO Vijayakumar
Noida-based IT company HCL Technologies, which saw its revenue cross the $10 billion milestone in 2020, plans to hire about 20,000 people, both freshers and laterals, over the next 4-6 months. At the end of the December quarter, the company had a total employee strength of 1,59,682. During the October-December period, HCL Tech saw a gross addition of 12,422 employees, while net addition stood at 6,597 people. Attrition for IT services declined to 10.2 per cent, from 16.8 per cent in the year-ago period.
Budget 2021: Sell stakes in PSUs; prioritise spending to boost economy, says Raghuram Rajan
As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman prepares to deliver her third Budget on February 1, former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan has said the government should take advantage of the rally in the Indian equity markets right now and sell stakes in PSUs while prioritising spending to get the economy back on track. He said that Budget 2021 should focus on providing "relief to the poorer households and small and medium enterprises".
