Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V is 92 per cent effective in protecting people from coronavirus, show interim trial results. The interim trial results were announced by Russia's sovereign wealth fund Russian Direct Investment Fund on Wednesday. RDIF is backing the vaccine and marketing it globally. Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine is currently undergoing phase III testing stage in Belarus, UAE, Venezuela and other countries, while it is in phase II-III in India.

Vehicles production up 35.6%; PV sales grow 14% to 3.10 lakh units in October: SIAM

The Indian auto industry witnessed a 35.64 per cent growth in total production of passenger vehicles (PVs), three-wheelers, two-wheelers, and quadricycles in October 2020, according to the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). In terms of domestic sales, a total of 3.10 lakh units Passenger Vehicles (PVs) were sold last month as compared to 2.71 lakh units in the same month last year, registering a growth of 14.19 per cent. The two-wheeler sales also moved to positive with 16.88 per cent to 20,53,814 units in October this year from 17,57,180 units in October 2019.

Netflix, Hotstar, Prime Video, other digital platforms now under I&B ministry

The central government has issued a notification, bringing digital news platforms, OTT platforms, and content providers under the ambit of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B Ministry). Presently, there is no autonomous body or law regulating digital content. The order will effectively bring OTT platforms such as Netflix, Hotstar, and Amazon Prime Video etc. under the ministry, headed by Prakash Javadekar.

ByteDance-owned TikTok is working on a comeback strategy for India, and has even shortlisted partner firms for legal, policy and advocacy, and communications functions. The short video sharing app was banned in India in June after hostilities broke out between India and China. Despite facing a ban in the country, ByteDance reportedly gave cash bonuses to its 2,000 Indian employees under TikTok and Helo apps to help them overcome the disruptions due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Maruti S-Presso scores zero star for safety in crash testing

In a major embarrassment for its credentials as a manufacturer of safe cars, India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki's newest entry level hatchback S-Presso has scored zero star for adult occupant safety in the latest round of crash tests conducted by UK-based independent body Global NCAP. Launched in October last year, S-Presso joins the hall of shame with 19 other cars in India including stablemates Alto, WagonR, Eeco, Swift and Celerio.

'India has moved from tax-terrorism to tax-transparency': PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the country is moving from "tax terrorism to tax transparency", thanks to the approach of reform, perform and transform. He said rules and procedures are being reformed with the help of technology. "We are performing with clear intentions and at the same time transforming the mindset of the tax administration," PM Modi said while inaugurating office-cum-residential complex of Cuttack Bench of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal through video conference.
