India is the world's most "open and investment friendly" economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Brasalia on Thursday as he wooed the BRICS business leaders, urging them to invest in the country and take advantage of its "limitless" possibilities and "countless" opportunities. Addressing the closing ceremony of the BRICS Business Forum, prime minister Modi said the grouping of five countries had led to economic development despite the global economic slowdown.

October retail inflation touches 16-month high of 4.62% on high vegetable prices
Retail inflation touched a 16-month high of 4.62 per cent in October due to higher food prices, showed data released by National Statistics Office. Notably, this is the first month since August 2018 that retail inflation has breached the 4 per cent medium-term target set by the Reserve Bank of India. Meanwhile, inflation in food basked rose to 7.89 per cent in October.

Finance ministry amends money laundering law to simplify KYC process
The Ministry of Finance on Wednesday amended the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to allow people who have used Aadhaar for KYC and want to give an address different from the one in Aadhaar as current address on self declaration basis. This has been a long-pending demand from various sections. With the change in the PMLA Act, people may have residential address in their Aadhaar and give work address as current address.

Cancer treatment cost pushes 6 crore Indians below poverty line yearly
Six crore Indian citizens are pushed below the poverty line every year because of treatment costs associated with cancer in their families, a parliamentary panel report suggests. While 16 lakh new cancer cases are diagnosed every year, the annual mortality is eight lakh. The current health infrastructure is grossly inadequate to handle the growing problem of cancer, the report says.

China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) could drive cyber espionage across many regions in the world in 2020, including Asia, a new report by security firm FireEye warns. The report states that recent cyber espionage activities related to the BRI have targeted many governments, transportation, energy, defense, space, media and telecommunications sectors. Besides BRI, other geopolitical tensions could also drive espionage.
