The latest news on the unemployment front is a cause for concern for the Modi government, long criticised for jobless growth after making it a key electoral promise in 2014. According to data compiled by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), the unemployment rate rose to 7.2% in February 2019, the worst in 28 months. Meanwhile, the labour force is down 25.7 million since September 2016 and the number of employed persons has declined by 18.3 million in the same period.

Ten days after the Indian Air Force dropped bombs in the training camp of terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed in Balakot in Pakistan, the IAF has reportedly provided the government with proof that it hit targets during the February 26 airstrike. The IAF has submitted satellite images to the Centre as proof of successful Balakot airstrike, which showed that 80 per cent of the bombs deployed during the airstrike hit their intended targets, top sources within the service told India Today TV.
Most northern, eastern states lose sizeable electricity in transmission and distribution

The country lost 21.4 of electricity produced in transmission and distribution (T&D) in the financial year 2016/17 which came down just 1.6 percentage points since 2012/13. T&D losses represent electricity that is generated but does not reach intended customers. According the Reserve Bank of India's latest release on statistics of states, the worst performer was Arunachal Pradesh with a maximum T&D loss of 49.4 per cent in 2016/17, down from 50.6 per cent in the previous year. This was followed by Jammu & Kashmir with a T&D loss of 47 per cent.

Luxury car maker Mercedes Benz on Wednesday said that it is "cautiously optimistic" about growth prospects in 2019 since it is an election year. "This is an election year. So, we are cautiously optimistic about growth in the first half as people are deferring purchases. We expect that there will growth in the second half," MD and CEO of Mercedes Benz India Martin Schwenk said.

Google has launched a speech-based reading-tutor app called Bolo for Android-based smartphones to help children in rural India with their reading skills. With the reach of the mobile phones rising in India, Google would be looking to use the app to expand its presence in the country. The app is aimed at helping kids who are unable to go to schools or have no access to it. The Bolo app can be downloaded for free from the Google's Play Store. The app can also work offline and does not require an active internet connection.
