1. Xiaomi Redmi S2 launched in China

Xiaomi launched the Redmi S2 in China. The 3GB/32GB variant has been priced at 999 yuan, whereas the 4GB/64GB variant has been priced at 1,299 yuan. The Xiaomi Redmi S2 runs Snapdragon 625 under the hood, and comes with an 18:9 screen, AI-enabled dual cameras and a very powerful selfie camera. Xiaomi claims that it is its best selfie phone so far.

2. Reliance Jio launches new postpaid plan

Reliance Jio recently launched its new postpaid service by the name of JioPostpaid. Priced at Rs 199, the postpaid plans unlimited voice calls, unlimited text messages and 25GB of high speed data for the billing cycle. With its Zero Touch feature, JioPostpaid users get text, voice, internet and even international calling pre-activated. International roaming could be activated with one click without any security deposit. Just like its prepaid plans, Jio has kept the tariffs under JioPostpaid highly competitive.

3. OnePlus 6 to be available through Amazon's 'Fast AF' sale

OnePlus 6 will available for select buyers under Amazon's 'Fast AF' sale from May 13-16. Interested buyers can register their units by purchasing an eGift card from Amazon for Rs 1,000. Amazon is also offering Rs 1000 cashback to successful buyers under this sale. OnePlus 6 is coming with Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a glass back panel, water resistance and 3,300 mAh battery.

4. Google I/O sees Android P beta, new Google Assistant

Android P Beta was launched on the first day of Google I/O. This new version of Android uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to a great extent. Slices, a feature that allows you to interact with your Google Search results, Wind Down, a feature that turns on the Do Not Disturb mode when the phone is kept screen down, and a new app drawer, are some of the features available with Android P Beta. A new version of Google Assistant was also launched during the Google I/O. This new version of voice assistant drew eyeballs with its ability to understand nuances of human conversation.

5. Walmart to buy majority stake in Flipkart

US-based retail giant Walmart has announced that it will buy 77 per cent stake in Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart for a sum of $16 billion. This deal is being hailed as a turning point for India e-commerce for several reasons. The deal now awaits regulatory approval.

6. Instagram payments rolled out

Facebook recently released a native payments feature for its subsidiary Instagram. This feature is available to select users in US and UK. The Instagram payments feature allows users to register a debit or credit card, set-up a security pin and start shopping without leaving the application.
