Armed with war chests, global distressed funds are eyeing troubled assets in India.

With some of its deleveraging plans, which included a merger with Aircel, collapsing, cornered RCom on Monday presented a fresh plan to recast its Rs 45,000 crore debt to lenders that includes converting Rs 7,000 crore of debt into equity by banks and handing over majority stake to them.

Global sovereign funds and private equity players are showing immense interest in India's commercial real estate segment.

Shares of Eicher Motors jumped over 6 per cent after the company posted a 58.61 per cent rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 376.29 crore in the June quarter.

Shares of DLF surged 1.65 per cent in trade on Tuesday following news reports the realty major has received bids worth $1 billion for a 40 per cent stake in its commercial property unit.

A consortium composed of Brookfield and the Core Infrastructure India Fund Pte Ltd are buying the projects, six of which are operational, said Ambit Holdings, which advised Gammon on the deal.

Unitech currently has over 100 ongoing projects, totalling an area of 38.41 million sq ft. Its net debt stood at Rs 5,900 crore at the end of the first quarter of this fiscal.

\"During the quarter, an extraordinary loss of Rs 990.73 crore arising due to wireless business was booked. Net profit for the quarter, therefore, was Rs 5.56 crore,\" Unitech said, explaining reason behind sharp fall in net profit.

\"We can confirm that Brookfield Property Group has purchased BlackBerry's Irving, Texas campus property. BlackBerry will continue to be a tenant on the campus,\" a BlackBerry spokesperson told PTI.

Fairfax is exercising a previously announced option linked to BlackBerry's recent $1 billion debt financing, in which it had initially bought $250 million.

The struggling Canadian handset maker had earlier this month scrapped a sale plan and said it would instead raise as much as $1.25 billion through convertible debentures, which it intends to use for general corporate purposes.

John Chen will get a base salary of $1 million, a bonus of up to twice that amount, as well as stock awards potentially worth some $85 million.

In addition to the Kotak Mahindra Group, commitments had been received from Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation of Japan, an affiliate of Brookfield Asset Management, Japan Bank for International Co-operation and a leading insurance group.
