Domestic benchmarks climbed to day's high, with Sensex and Nifty rising to 31,959 and 9,343, backed by strong overseas markets that rose amid a recovery in crude prices.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 76.31, then gained ground and touched 76.20, registering a rise of 48 paise over its previous close. Forex traders said higher opening of domestic equities supported the local unit, while sustained foreign fund outflows and concerns over coronavirus outbreak weighed on the currency.
