The British Prime Minister added that he would be self-isolating himself at 10 Downing Street after getting tested by National Healthcare Services (NHS) officials. The UK till now has reported more than 11,600 coronavirus cases and 578 deaths. Johnson was seen clapping yesterday outside No 10 as a part of a national gesture to thank the NHS. He said that he would continue to communicate with his top teams and lead the nation in the fight against coronavirus. The number of coronavirus cases in the US climbed above 82,000 on Thursday, surpassing the national tallies of China and Italy, as New York, New Orleans and other hot spots faced a surge in hospitalisations and looming shortages of supplies, staff and sick beds. With medical facilities running low on ventilators, protective masks and witnessing limited diagnostic testing capacity, the US death toll from Covid-19 rose beyond 1,200. New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo described the state's projected shortfall in ventilators as astronomical. A global hunt is on to find the right medicine for coronavirus. Leading Indian companies such as IPCA, Zydus Cadila are manufacturing anti-rheumatoid arthritis drugs like hydroxychloroquine and anti-malaria medicine like chloroquine. The demand for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine jumped after US President Donald Trump called them effective in treating COVID-19. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) had also recommended the use of hydroxychloroquine for treating healthcare workers handling suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases. The Indian manufacturers have, however, reassured that there is enough capacity to meet the demand.
