Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) has applied to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) seeking permission to manufacture COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V in the country, government sources said on Thursday. Russia's RDIF sovereign wealth fund, which is marketing Sputnik V globally, has already signed agreements with six leading Indian manufacturers including Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Gland Pharma, Hetero Biopharma, Panacea Biotec, Stelis Biopharma and Virchow Biotech. The vaccine is currently being manufactured in India by Dr Reddy's Laboratories. The SII has also sought approval for test analysis and examination. The price of DRDO's 2DG anti-COVID drug has been fixed at Rs 990 per sachet by pharma major Dr Reddy's Laboratories. However, the pharma company will provide the drug to the government hospitals, central and state governments at a discounted price. 2DG anti-COVID drug has been developed by the Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS), a lab of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with Hyderabad-based pharma company Dr Reddy's Laboratories (DRL). According to the pharma major, the drug will be commercially launched in mid-June. Watch the video for more.

Union Defence minister Rajnath Singh today released the first batch of the anti-Covid-19 drug, 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG), which has been granted emergency approval by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). The anti-Covid oral drug has been developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO's) leading laboratory, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) in collaboration with Dr Reddy's Laboratories. Singh said the anti-Covid drug will prove effective against coronavirus, and is a great example of the scientific prowess of India. He said this drug was a new ray of hope for India.
