3.46 mn people joined formal workforce in 6 monthsIndia has added more than 3 million people to the formal workforce between September 2017 and February 2018 according to the government. The numbers were released by extrapolating data from the EPFO and National Pension Scheme.However, it remains unclear whether these are new jobs or a result of formalisation of existing employment. The \"all new\" Gmail is available to the more than four million businesses that pay for G Suite services. People who use the email service personally for free can opt in by making the choice in settings, vice president of product management David Thacker said in a blog post. Revamped Gmail has \"a brand new look on the web, advanced security features, new applications of Google's artificial intelligence and even more integrations with other G Suite apps,\" according to Thacker. A confidential mode added to Gmail promises to let people sending messages set expiration dates and block them from being forwarded, copied, downloaded or printed. Messages can be revoked after being sent, Thacker said.Study reveals internet shutdown cost Indian economy $3 bn from 2012-17The Indian economy is estimated to have suffered a loss of USD 3 billion due to Internet shutdown in the country from 2012-17, according to a study by ICRIER. The study observed impact of Internet shutdown across various devices and ecosystem linked to them. E-Commerce businesses and online freelancers who operate out of small towns and are completely dependent on a functioning Internet are the most affected by Internet shutdowns, the report said adding that tourism has also become increasingly dependent on the Internet and has been significantly affected.GST Council meet on May 4, simplifying returns on agendaFinance Minister Arun Jaitley-chaired GST Council will meet on May 4 to discuss a simpler return form and the amendments required in the indirect tax regime rules. The 27th meeting of the Council, comprising state finance ministers, will meet through video conferencing and will also mull over the proposal of converting GSTN into a government company. The REBR covered 75% of the global economy with 30 participating countries and more than 1,75,000 respondents worldwide. Forty-nine per cent of the respondents mentioned that work places need to be open, flexible and should demonstrate a willingness to change in order to retain their employees as well as keep them engaged.

The government has blamed the 'unusual spurt in currency demand' in the country in last three months for the cash shortage. \"In the first 13 days of the current month, the currency supply increased by Rs 45,000 crores,\" a Ministry of Finance circular said.

What is missing is the formation of the Bank Investment Company (BIC), a holding company for housing the government stake at all the PSBs. So far, there is no road map. The PSBs are already neck deep in trouble with government only pouring in more capital.
