Srikanth Velamakanni is the Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fractal, an independent analytics services company. Recently, he became a member of IT industry lobby Nasscom's Analytics Special Interest Group, a body formed to address the growing business opportunities in the Big Data space. He spoke to Business Today's Goutam Das on the analytics market in India.  

Most large tier IT companies have now identified analytics as the next big growth area.  According to the McKinsey Global Institute, the US will face a shortage of 190,000 people with deep analytical skills by 2018 -  a $20 billion outsourcing opportunity.

Analytics firm Mu Sigma, which dissects large amounts of data helping firms make sense of it, has gone from zero to $70 million revenues in six years and now employs 1,500; it expects to clock $110 million in 2012 with 2,100 employees.

Research and analytics has become an attractive job option.
