The 2014 edition of Business Today's survey of India's top B-Schools, in partnership with MDRA, reveals campus dynamics.

But it's no longer only business schools that recruiters are flocking to for fresh hires. Top companies, mainly in the field of audit, consulting, IT, as well as start-ups, are now targeting graduate schools as well with lucrative offers.

The post-graduate management programme's 770 students received 831 offers compared with 697 last year. The school with campuses in Hyderabad and Mohali is upbeat because about 85 per cent of its students have been placed compared with around 65 per cent at this time last year.

An amalgamation of B-school students from across the years is like a live social network that serves as a melting pot of experiences, ideas and opinions.  

One reason why start-ups are hiring from IITs and IIMs is that many of these companies have been founded by alumni of these institutes.

Interest in one-year, full-time MBA programmes for executives is surging in India. Those who enrol are typically mid- to senior-level executives, with an engineering background or some other degree, but usually no formal management qualification.

At the second-rung institutes, including the new IIMs, however, campus placements appear to have been impacted by the slowdown. For instance, IIM Shillong succeeded in getting more companies to the campus this year, but saw a sharp drop in the number of offers.

The Indian School of Business says it has recorded a significant rise in job offers as well as the number of recruiters participating in its integrated placements held at Hyderabad and Mohali campuses.

B-schools have proliferated, leading to oversupply and a fall in teaching quality.
