China responds to Donald Trump's tariffsIn a first response to US President Donald Trump's ordering of levies on Chinese metal exports , China has said it doesn't fear a trade war with the US. China plans tariffs on imports of US pork imports, recycled aluminum, steel pipes, fruit and wine, according to a Commerce Ministry statement. China has announced plans for reciprocal tariffs on $3 billion of imports from the US.Union Bank of India hit by bank fraudAfter PNB and SBI, it is now the turn of Union bank to become a victim of bank fraud. CBI has registered a Rs1,394.43 crore bank fraud case against Hyderabad-based Totem Infrastructure Ltd on a complaint by Union Bank of India. Union Bank of India's industrial finance branch of Hyderabad filed the complaint against Totem for cheating the bank. It was alleged in the complaint by Union Bank that \"the company had diverted funds by opening accounts outside the consortium and through payments of wages by showing excess expenditure and inflated stocks.\"Vodafone-Idea merger: Balesh Sharma to become CEOVodafone and Aditya Birla Group's Idea Cellular, in the final stages of completing the merger of their operations in India, have announced the new leadership team of the merged entity. As indicated earlier, Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairman of the AV Birla Group, will be the non-executive chairman of the merged entity. The two firms have named Balesh Sharma, currently chief operating officer of Vodafone India, the new CEO of the merged entity as reported by the Financial Express. He said, for instance, that he would be \"happy\" to testify before Congress, but only if it was \"the right thing to do.\"Govt to now double tax-free gratuity to Rs 20 lakhThe Payment of Gratuity (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday without any discussion. The Bill will enable the government to increase the ceiling of tax-free gratuity to Rs 20 lakh from Rs 10 lakh for employees under the Payment of Gratuity Act. The law is applicable to the employees who have completed at least five years of service in an entity that has 10 or more employees. The Bill will also empower the government to fix the maternity leave for female employees as deemed to be in continuous service in place of the existing 12 weeks with an executive order. Air India starts direct flight from Delhi to Tel AvivEven as the evaluating committee is in process of finalising bidding norms for the sale of the beleaguered Air India, the airline has managed to make history once again. The first Air India direct flight from New Delhi to Tel Aviv arrived in Tel Aviv. Significantly, this is the first time that Saudi Arabia has allowed an Israel-bound flight to enter its airspace, thus ending a seven decade old ban.
