Almost ten months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the government's decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today issued a completely new currency of Rs 200 denomination, which the country had never seen before.

The bright yellow coloured notes will hit the market just on the second day after the announcement by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley that the government has given go-ahead to the RBI to issue the new currency bill.

The new denomination has motif of Sanchi Stupa on the reverse, depicting the country's cultural heritage. The base colour of the note is Bright Yellow. The note has other designs, geometric patterns aligning with the overall colour scheme, both at the obverse and reverse, RBI said.

RBI released the new Rs 50 notes, sometime after they were seen on social media sites, making several features of the bill public well before its launch.

The central bank had already issued new batches of Rs 500 in June and Rs 20 notes in July with the new Mahatama Gandhi series and Urjit Patel's signature.

The design of the new notes will not be changed in anyway and will remain the same as the ones already in circulation.
