Sensex, Nifty Live News Today: As per market experts, stock-specific action in index heavyweights HDFC twins, Infosys, Kotak Bank, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech and TCS kept Sensex and Nifty positive today.

Both indices have overall fallen over 5% in a week. While Sensex has erased 7.54% value year to date, Nifty has fallen 8.51% value in the same period.

The yellow metal that was already gaining on the back of support from international spot gold today, later added further momentum after 2 new Covid-19 infected cases were reported in Delhi and Telangana, taking the total number of infected from the virus outbreak to 5 in the country.

Share Market Update: Extending fall for the seventh straight session, BSE 30-share S&P Sensex closed 153 points lower at 38,144 and Nifty50 ended 69 points lower at 11,132.

All the sectoral indices recorded healthy gains with Oil & Gas, Metals and Consumer Durables recording the highest in the range of 3.1-3.5%. Midcap and Smallcap index gained 1.29%-1.37% respectively.

Share Market LIVE: On the sectoral front, indices trading in the green are IT, FMCG, Auto, Metal, Infra and Pharma. In declining indices, PSU bank and Media tops the list with 1.40% decline each, followed by Financial services, Energy, Bank and Realty.

Except auto, all other sectoral indices ended in green backed up by gains in bank, IT, energy, telecom and finance.

Share Market Updates: Overall 22 stocks out of 30 stocks closed in the red on Sensex and 30 out of 50 stocks closed in the red on NIFTY 50.

M&M (2.71%), SBI (1.97 percent) and Sun Pharma (2.06 percent) were the top Sensex gainers in Monday's trade. YES Bank (1.23%), Coal India (1.11%) and Infosys (0.79 percent) were the top losers on Sensex.

Stock brokers said buying activity gathered momentum as investors covered their pending short positions on April settlement in the derivatives segment. Buying by FIIs and retail investors on the back of encouraging earnings by corporates also helped key indices to continue their record-breaking performance.
