Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Delhi government issued an order on Saturday making it mandatory for all residents of Delhi who visit the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar to quarantine themselves at home for fourteen days after return. Residents of Delhi who visited the Kumbh Mela between April 4 and April 17 are required to upload their details on a link provided on the Delhi government website within 24 hours. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani also on Saturday said that all those returning to the state after attending the Kumbh Mela in Haridwar will have to undergo a COVID RT-PCR test, after which they will be allowed to enter their villages and cities. Long queues were seen outside liquor shops in several parts of Delhi as soon as Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a 6-day lockdown in the city till April 26 on Monday, amid a rapid increase in coronavirus cases. After a meeting with Delhi L-G Anil Baijal, Kejriwal announced the decision to impose lockdown from 10 pm on Monday till 5 am on April 26. While the shops selling essential items will be allowed to remain open, the liquor shops will remain closed for the duration. Haunted by the memories of last year's lockdown, people rushed to the stores to stock up on liquor. Crowds gathered outside the liquor stores flouting COVID-19 norms with Delhi Police personnel trying to control the situation. Delhi government will be enforcing lockdown in the city starting Monday night for a week till April 26 as it grapples with the massive surge in COVID-19 cases. Kejriwal on Monday said Delhi's health system is strained with the daily 25,000 cases that the city is witnessing currently. After a meeting with Delhi L-G Anil Baijal, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced the decision to impose lockdown from 10 pm on Monday till 5 am on April 26. The chief minister also appealed to the migrants to not leave the city and assured that the government will take good care of them. The Delhi government had earlier announced a weekend curfew that ended at 5 am on Monday, with roads and markets looking deserted over the weekend.
