Around six people had died of 18 people infected with the avian virus in 1997. Since 2003, it has spread from Asia to Europe and Africa. India had notified the first outbreak of avian influenza in 2006

The epicentre of bird flu has been in and around Thorrur village in Hayathnagar in the Ranga Reddy district on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
