Pollution levels dipped slightly in the national capital on Tuesday morning due to favourable wind speed, with the air quality still being in the 'poor' category. The Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitor, SAFAR, said the air quality index (AQI) is likely to slip to the 'very poor' category by Wednesday due to a change in the wind direction and a reduction in the wind speed. The air pollution in Delhi is presenting  a great challenge to people with breathing problems. Stubble burning in neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana has now polluted Delhi's air quality by 19 per cent, according to a data Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) website SAFAR. Stubble burning was responsible for only 6 per cent pollution contribution to the air quality of Delhi NCR on October 15 but in a span of two days, it has increased by 13 per cent, the data showed. However, the Centre and state governments have continued to pass the blame onto each other. Watch the video for more.

The Delhi government on Thursday launched a new initiative, 'Red Light On, Gaadi Off', to tackle the problem of rising air pollution in the national capital. Addressing an online media briefing, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that idling of 30-40 lakh vehicles at traffic signals increases air pollution levels in the city. He added that Delhi witnesses a rise in air pollution during this time of the year due to stubble burning and expressed concern over the health of residents of villages where it is practised.
